About fifteen people were feared injured in Ibadan on Wednesday when irate secondary school students took to the streets to protest the rumoured death of a colleague.
The affected teenager, Oseni Yusuf, a student of Oyeshina High School, Monatan, was knocked down by a Pepsi Cola Tata truck, in the area.
His colleagues, who feared that he might have died from the accident, went on rampage and attempted to deal with the driver. Though the driver escaped, his vehicle was burnt.
Traffic along the expressway was affected as hoodlums joined in the frail, taking advantage of the situation to wreck havoc on residents and passersby.
The police later drafted officers with armoured personnel carriers to control the situation.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor described the actions of the students as very unfortunate.
“There was serious motor accident today ( Wednesday) at about 1230hrs.
A Tata truck with reg no EKY 990 XA driven by Adegoroye Kamoru hit a student of Oyeshina High school Monatan by name OSENI YUSUF and he was rushed to Divine hospital responding to treatment.
“The policemen moved to the scene to control the irate students but they went on rampage and were throwing bottles and set the vehicle ablaze. The patrol teams were mobilized to rescue the situation. The area is calm now,” she said.
